What are healthy fats? Why are healthy fats so important?
Healthy fats are part of the basic chemistry that our body needs to keep the body running at optimal health. Healthy fats are also called EFA’s, or Essential Fatty Acids, in scientific terms: Omega-3‘s and Omega 6‘s. Since the body cannot replenish itself with healthy fats on its own, it has to come from an outside source. The main source is found in fish such as salmon and cod, and also in nuts, flax, and avocados. Since most people do not eat salmon every day, many health professionals recommend a dietary supplement that is fortified with omega-3 fatty acids as an effective strategy.

Why Should I Take Fish Oil?
Healthy fats are critical to the body in a number of ways. Most importantly, healthy fats protect the brain and heart. A diet that lacks omega-3 fatty acids, particularly EPA, (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA, (docosahexaenoic acid) results in altered cell membranes which in turn can cause the development chronic disease, inflammation, and dysfunction such as diabetes, arthritis, heart disease, dementia, lupus, insulin resistance, depression, postpartum depression, ADHD, accelerated aging, stroke, arthritis, and cancer.

Nutrition + Exercise = Lifelong Wellness Inside and Out

In addition to great nutrition, the last ingredient to lifelong wellness is exercise. Exercise is known to be the miracle cure for many things, yet somehow it seems to get put on the back burner due to the stress of everyday life. People just seem too tired. Ironically, that’s your body telling you to get moving! Your body needs movement and good nutrition to keep it running smoothly and efficiently and to prevent the onset of disease. Whatever your age, there's strong scientific evidence that being physically active can help you lead a happier and healthier life.

Did you know that people who are physically active have a lower risk of developing chronic diseases such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, depression, dementia, Alzheimer’s and cancer? Not to mention, exercise boosts energy and self-esteem, enhances your quality of relationships, quality of sleep, detoxifies, boosts the immune system, gives you pure clean energy, and improves your overall quality of life. It’s so easy to do, just get out there and move! Walking three times a week for 30 minutes is all you need.

Here are a few ideas:

  • Walk outside in the sunshine with a friend or a loved one.
  • Take a friend to the gym and walk on the treadmill together instead of going out for drinks.
  • Have shopping or errands to run? Bring your ipod and track how many hours you spent walking.

A few hours can easily add up to equal 2-3 miles. Instead of going to a movie, take the family to play football in the park. Whatever you do, just get moving and keep moving. That’s the key.
